Sweet Feet: Skin Care Tips for Feet
It seems like everyone’s talking about self-care these days. This cultural shift has been a positive step for many people towards living a healthier lifestyle, and it’s important that we don’t leave feet out of the conversation. Taking care of the skin on your feet not only makes them look nicer but it helps you avoid more serious infections and conditions. Let’s talk about a few ways you can take care of your feet at home.
Do Away with Dry Skin
Dry skin can be uncomfortable and unsightly. The good news is that taking a few minutes every day to smooth your feet with a pumice stone, wash with an exfoliating scrub, and apply moisturizer can easily do away with dry skin. Additionally, spending this time inspecting your feet can help you keep an eye out for more serious conditions. For example, if you find small, itchy blisters around your feet, you might have dyshidrotic eczema. This may not be as fun as the rest of the process, but the sooner you spot such condition, the quicker you can do away with them.
Fungus Is No Fun
One of the best ways to take care of your feet is by protecting them from fungus and viruses. Strains of fungi that cause nasty and smelly conditions like athletes’ foot thrive in warm, damp areas like public swimming pools or shared locker rooms. Instead of walking around barefoot, throw on a pair of water shoes or flip-flops. Covering your feet in these settings can also help avoid viruses that cause plantar warts from getting under your skin.
Trim with Caution
When your toenails get too long, always use clean clippers and cut the nail in a straight line without getting too close to the cuticle. It’s especially important to never bite or tear the toenail because this could reshape in an abnormal position that might cause it to grow back as a painful and ugly ingrown toenail.
